Mu Mu Lambda Scholarship

The Mu Lambda Education Foundation Scholarship is open to young men and women in the state of Illinois.

Mu Mu Lambda Education Foundation, Inc. is the non-profit, charitable arm of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. Mu Mu Lambda Chapter. Mu Mu Lambda Education Foundation is a 501(c)(3) focused on providing scholarships, offering programs and developing Mu Mu Lambda Chapter membership. Mu Mu Lambda Education Foundation, Inc. encompasses the implementation of Alpha Phi Alpha’s National Programs at the local level. These National Programs and initiatives include:

  • Go-to-High School, Go-to-College

  • Project Alpha

  • First of All, We Vote

  • The Belford V. Lawson Oratorical Contest

  • The John Hope Franklin Collegiate Scholars Bowl

  • The Hobart Jarrett Debate Competition

  • Leadership Development Institutes

  • The professional and personal development thrusts of the fraternity—Alpha University

The Mu Mu Lambda Scholarship was formed to ensure the coordination and collaboration amongst African American young men and women concentrated on the importance of completing secondary and collegiate education as a road to advancement. The 2024 Mu Mu Lambda Education Foundation, Inc. scholarships are non-renewable awards available to graduating high school seniors that are living in the state of Illinois pursuing a two-year or four-year degree from an accredited university. Up to ten scholarships will be awarded to students to help alleviate the cost of tuition, fees, room and board, and books.

In order to be considered for these awards, an application, essay and letters of recommendation must be completed and submitted no later than Tuesday, May 11, 2024 at 11:59PM CST. Student awardees will be notified no later than Saturday, June 1, 2024 at 5PM CST. Students are required to report any outside scholarships to their school’s financial aid office.

Mu Mu Lambda Chapter’s Education Committee will determine the selection of scholarships from objective and non-discriminatory criteria. Scholarship awards are granted without regard to race, color, creed, religion, sexual orientation, gender, disability or national origin.

Mu Mu Lambda Education Foundation Inc’s 2024 Scholarship Criteria:

  • Must be a graduating high school senior that is living in the state of Illinois, pursuing a two-year or four-year degree from an accredited college or university

  • Must complete the on-line application by May 11, 2024 11:59 PM CST

    • application will be rated on appearance, verification of information, clarity and evidence of achievements

  • Must submit essay (500 – 1000 words, double spaced, 12 font size, “1” margins)

  • Must have 2.75 minimum GPA/4.0 or equivalent

  • Must submit official high school transcript

    • All transcripts must be submitted using the grading policy/GPA scale currently used by their school

  • Must submit one letter of recommendation from a teacher, faculty member or coach, etc.

  • Must submit one personal letter of recommendation from a community organization, church, part-time job, etc.

  • Must submit a headshot photo (2X2 inches - professional)

  • Must list involvement/participation in Alpha Phi Alpha Programs and Special Projects, if applicable.

  • Must download and complete the Alpha Phi Alpha, Inc. Photography/Videography Release Form. The Parent/Guardian must sign the document.

Essay Requirements: 

The essay should be thoughtfully and clearly written, but succinct. The essay should be 500 -1000 words, double spaced and font size 12.
