Mu Mu Lambda Scholarship

The Mu Mu Lambda Education Foundation, Inc. is the 501(c)(3) charitable arm of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., Mu Mu Lambda Chapter. The Foundation is committed to expanding educational opportunities through scholarships, youth programs, and community-based initiatives. It also supports the implementation of Alpha Phi Alpha’s national programs at the local level. These National Programs and initiatives include:

  • Go-to-High School, Go-to-College

  • Project Alpha

  • A Voteless People is a Hopeless People

  • The Belford V. Lawson Oratorical Contest

  • The John Hope Franklin Collegiate Scholars Bowl

  • The Hobart Jarrett Debate Competition

  • Leadership Development Institutes

  • The professional and personal development thrusts of the fraternity—Alpha University

The Mu Mu Lambda Scholarship was established to encourage and support young men and women who are committed to completing their secondary and collegiate education as a pathway to personal and professional advancement. The 2026 Mu Mu Lambda Education Foundation scholarships are non-renewable awards available to graduating high school seniors residing in Illinois who plan to pursue a two-year or four-year degree at an accredited college or university. Scholarship funds may be applied toward tuition, fees, room and board, and books.

To be considered, students must submit a completed application, essay, and letters of recommendation by Wednesday, March 11, 2026 at 11:59 PM CST. Award recipients will be notified by Saturday, March 29, 2026 at 5:00 PM CST. Recipients are required to attend the 2026 Mu Mu Lambda Scholarship Gala on April 11, 2026. Students must also report any outside scholarships to their school’s financial aid office.

Scholarship recipients are selected by the Mu Mu Lambda Chapter Education Committee using objective and non-discriminatory criteria. Awards are granted without regard to race, color, creed, religion, sexual orientation, gender, disability, or national origin.



Mu Mu Lambda Education Foundation, Inc. - 2026 Scholarship Criteria:

  • Must be a graduating high school senior that is living in the state of Illinois, pursuing a two-year or four-year degree from an accredited college or university

  • Must complete the online application by Wednesday, March 11, 2026 at 11:59PM CST

    • application will be rated on professional formatting, grammar/spelling, completeness, organization, clarity, verification of information, and evidence of achievements

  • Must submit essay (500 – 1000 words, double spaced, 12 font size, 1” margins)

  • Must have 2.75 minimum GPA/4.0 or equivalent

    • Students slightly below the GPA requirement may still apply if they demonstrate strong leadership, growth, or extenuating circumstances.

  • Must submit official high school transcript

    • All transcripts must be submitted using the grading policy/GPA scale currently used by their school

  • Must submit one letter of recommendation from a teacher, faculty member or coach, etc. on school letterhead

  • Must submit a clear headshot photo (professional)

  • Must list involvement/participation in Alpha Phi Alpha Programs and Special Projects, if applicable.

  • Recipients must provide proof of acceptance before funds are disbursed.

  • Must complete the online Alpha Phi Alpha, Inc. Photography/Videography Release Form. The Parent/Guardian must sign the document.
